Dyestuff: Dyestuff is organic or inorganic substances which can absorb light and reflect some lights to show color.  Actually, the dyestuff is water soluble substances. Pigment : Pigment is a substance that can absorb light and reflect some lights to show color but it is water insoluble substances.  Normally it is used for printing (with the presence of binder) or mass-coloration of the synthetic fibers.

What is Dye

Dyes are the colouring material that colour commodities of our day to day use. Hardly there is any industry where dyes are not used commercially. From Plastic toys for children to that jazzy t-shirt of yours, every where there is application of dyes. Enzyme

WHAT ARE ENZYMES? The enzymes are large protein molecules made up of long chain amino acids , which are produced by living cells in plants , animals and microorganisms , such as bacteria and fungi. Advantages of enzymes over conventional chemicals E nzyme technology is fast growing and emerging field of science , which has found innumerable applications in the textile wet processing. Since enzymes are natural products , they are easily biodegradable , non polluting , cleaner, gentle , non aggressive with minimum damage to substrate and environment. Enzymes promised a cleaner and environment friendly future by having the capacity and potential to enable us to live harmoniously with the nature.

Reactive dyes

Reactive dyes   In the simplest terms ,all reactive dyes are made up of three basic units, a chormophore , a bridge and a reactive group/ groups (either a haloheteocycle or an activated double bond). These dyes are used for dyeing of cellulosic fibers and   when these are applied to a   cellulosic fiber in an alkaline dye bath ,they form a covalent bond with hydroxyl group of the fiber by chemically reacting with fiber. The covalent bond formed between the dye molecule and fiber make dye molecule a part of the fiber molecule.

In general, the term aggregation is used for dye-dye interaction and dye association for interaction of dyes with other compounds e.g. polymers. Generally dye molecules form aggregation in aqueous solution at room temperature and to an extent which depend on i.        Size of dye molecules ii.      No of solubilizing groups in the dye molecules

Diffusion

Diffusion Diffusion means penetration/movement of substance owing the existence of conc. gradient i.e. movement of particles between the two surfaces having different density from higher to lower one. This is very important because it affects the fastness properties and the color yield. Diffusion depends on 1.    Dye size and nature of fibers and dyes 2.    Structure of fibers (crystallinity and orientation) 3.    Forces of interaction 4.    Environment pH, solvent, temperature etc

Mineral colors The word ‘Mineral’ indicates that these are inorganic in nature and these colors differ from all other classes of dyes, which are organic compound. Before introduction of the coal for dyes, these mineral colors formed an important section of the dyes. Mineral color contains metallic insoluble precipitates which are deeply colored. These insoluble precipitates have found great application as pigment for paint. For other purposes of dyeing, the precipitates themselves are not used but they actually created in and on the fibers from the soluble substances

Water Hardness

Hard water Hard water caused calcification on this faucet. Hard water is water that has high mineral content (mainly calcium and magnesium ions) (in contrast with soft water ). Hard water minerals primarily consist of calcium (Ca 2+ ), and magnesium (Mg 2+ ) metal cations , and sometimes other dissolved compounds such as bicarbonates and sulfates . Calcium usually enters the water as either calcium carbonate (CaCO 3 ), in the form of limestone and chalk , or calcium sulfate (CaSO 4 ), in the form of other mineral deposits. The predominant source of magnesium is dolomite (CaMg(CO 3 ) 2 ). Hard water is generally not harmful to one's health.
